LERC: Welcome to Language Engineering Research Centre at University of Hyderabad

Language and Speech Technologies at UoH:

Research and Development in Language and Speech Technologies is being carried out at Language Engineering Research Centre, School of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad, India, over the last 25 years. The primary focus is on Indian languages, especially Telugu (the second largest spoken language in India and the local language here in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) and Kannada (another major language from the Dravidian family, spoken mainly in the neighbouring state of Karnataka). English is also in focus. In recent times, high performance Machine Translation systems have also been developed.

The centre now has a nearly 40 Million word text corpus for Telugu, its own shallow parsing architecture and a wide coverage shallow parser for English, a speaker independent continuous speech recognition system for Telugu and a host of data resources, tools and technologies in many related areas.
