The smRti-s

While the sRti-s (veeda-s) are the basic texts of the sanaatana dharma, the smRti-s comprise of all other stuff, both secular and religious. Together, the sRti-s and sMRti-s constitute the entirety of our knowledge base.

In particular, the smRti-s include law books that prescribe code of conduct at both personal and societal levels, history, epics, mythology, literature, music, dance and other forms of art, and all other secular subjects. However, the term smRti is also often used to indicate the law books dealing with moral and ethical code of conduct in particular.
