bhaarati: The smRti-s: puraaNa-s
|
bhaviSya puraaNa
Consists of two halves, the puurvaardha and the uttaraardha. The
latter is considered by many scholars to be an independent treatise
called bhavis'yoottara puraaNa. A veritable store house of dharma.
Includes topics such as the sixteen saMskaara-s (religious
sacraments), rules of veedic study, varNaas'rama dharma, vrata-s
(religious observances), snake worship, Sun worship, creation of the
world, description of the Earth, types of daana (giving gifts
ceremoniously) and good conduct. saaMba, son of s'rii kRSNa, brings
the maga braahmaNa-s (Zoroastrians) from s'aaka-dviipa (Persia) into
India and get them settled on the banks of the river caMdrabhaaga.
Zoroastrians gradually integrated themselves into the Hindu society.
Perhaps Sun worship got a boost by this. This puraaNa includes the
geneology and rule of kings who will come in future.
